Our new Reconciliation Action Plan April 2024-December 2026 (RAP) sets out the practical steps we’re taking towards reconciliation.
It outlines our commitment to improving relationships, respect, opportunities and governance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Anita Summers, National Manager of Indigenous and Remote Servicing Branch was part of the RAP steering group, with representatives from across the agency working together to develop the plan.
‘The RAP is based on a shared vision across our agency,’ Anita said.
‘It’s about coming together with understanding, respect and trust to move forward in unity with Australia’s First Nations peoples and communities.
‘We’re an important touch point for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the country, especially when help is needed to access payments and services that can be life changing.
‘The RAP reflects our role as the government’s core service delivery agency, and a leader in the reconciliation movement.’
Trish Saunders, Acting National Manager of Performance, Priorities and Reporting Branch said the RAP continues our reconciliation journey and builds on the progress we’ve already made in the community.
'Through our 2018-22 RAP, we had many achievements,’ Trish said.
‘We updated our Indigenous Cultural Awareness training for staff and helped 824 apprentices start in the Australian Public Service (APS) through the Indigenous Apprenticeships Program.
‘We also delivered remote service centres at Wadeye, Groote Eylandt, Galiwinku and Hermannsburg in the Northern Territory, and Halls Creek in Western Australia.
‘I’m excited to see what we’ll achieve out of the new RAP to support our reconciliation journey.’
