If you volunteer, you will get an enhanced Income Management account with a SmartCard. The SmartCard looks and works like a normal debit card.
You can volunteer if you are eligible, get a payment from us and live in any of the following locations:
- Northern Territory
- Bankstown, NSW
- Bundaberg region or Hervey Bay region, Qld
- Rockhampton, Logan or Livingstone, Qld
- Cape York and Doomadgee region, Qld
- Metropolitan Perth, Peel region, Kimberley region, WA
- Ngaanyatjarra (NG) Lands, WA
- Goldfields region, or Kununurra or Wyndham in the East Kimberley region, WA
- Ceduna region, SA
- Greater Adelaide, SA
- Playford or Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, SA
- Shepparton, Vic.
If you live outside any of these locations, you are not able to volunteer for enhanced Income Management.
If you volunteer, you must stay on enhanced Income Management for at least 13 weeks. After that, you can stop enhanced Income Management at any time. You can do this by calling us.

If you live in the Cape York or Doomadgee region, you need to contact the Family Responsibilities Commission (FRC) to talk about volunteering.
What happens to your money
You will get the same amount of payment, but in a different way.
50% of your payments and 100% of any advance and most lump sum payments will go to your enhanced Income Management account. You can access this money with a SmartCard.
The rest of your payment goes to your normal bank account.
If you live in the Cape York or Doomadgee region, you can talk to the Family Responsibilities Commission (FRC) to talk about the percentage amount. You can choose from:
- 60% to your enhanced Income Management account and 40% to your normal bank account
- 75% to your enhanced Income Management account and 25% to your normal bank account
- 90% to your enhanced Income Management account and 10% to your normal bank account.
