Getting a SmartCard for enhanced Income Management in the Northern Territory

You can access your enhanced Income Management account with a SmartCard.

If you're new to enhanced Income Management, you can get a temporary SmartCard straight away. This will make sure that the income managed part of your next Centrelink payment can be sent to your enhanced Income Management account.

You can use your temporary SmartCard while you wait for your personalised SmartCard to arrive in the mail.

Getting a temporary SmartCard

You can get a temporary SmartCard if:

  • you are waiting for your personalised SmartCard to arrive in the mail
  • your SmartCard is lost, stolen or damaged.

Make sure you keep your temporary SmartCard until you get your personalised SmartCard and activate it.

If you are a Traditional Credit Union (TCU) customer and waiting for your personalised TCU SmartCard, you must get a temporary TCU SmartCard.

Once you activate your personalised SmartCard, your temporary SmartCard will stop working and you can safely throw it away.

If you go to a service centre

You can get a temporary SmartCard or temporary TCU SmartCard from any service centre in the NT.

Find your nearest service centre using Find Us.

We will activate it for you. You can use it straight away if you have money in your enhanced Income Management account.

If you go to a participating agent

You can get a temporary SmartCard or temporary TCU SmartCard from most agents in the NT, except Umbakumba.

Find your nearest agent using Find Us. If you get your temporary SmartCard or temporary TCU SmartCard from an agent, you need to activate it before it will work.

To activate a temporary SmartCard

Call the SmartCard eIM hotline to activate your temporary SmartCard.

To activate a temporary TCU SmartCard

If you get a temporary TCU SmartCard, contact TCU to activate it. Find out how to contact TCU on their website.

If you go to a TCU branch

If you are a TCU customer, you can also get a temporary TCU SmartCard from a TCU branch.

Find the TCU branch locations on their website.

They will activate it for you. You can use it straight away if you have money in your enhanced Income Management account.

Getting a personalised SmartCard

You will get a personalised SmartCard with your name on it in the mail if:

  • you are new to enhanced Income Management
  • you have requested a replacement SmartCard.

When you get your personalised SmartCard, you need to activate it. Follow the instructions included in the letter that came with your personalised SmartCard.
