Support for people in Australia from Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

If you have been affected by the conflict, we can help you with payments and support while you’re in Australia.

If you are from Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories and are living in Australia, you can apply for support depending on the type of visa you have. Some of our support services do not require you to hold a certain visa.

What visa types are eligible for support

The payments and services you are eligible for will depend on the type of visa you have.

You must have an eligible visa, such as:

  • Temporary Humanitarian Stay visa subclass 449
  • Temporary Humanitarian Concern visa subclass 786
  • Bridging visa E (subclass 050 or subclass 051).

Read more about these visa types and the Australian Government offer for Temporary Humanitarian Stay in Australia on the Department of Home Affairs website.

What support you can get on a 449 or 786 visa

If you have a 449 or 786 visa, you can claim any of the following payments without having to serve a waiting period. Read more about these payments:

What support you can get on a valid 050 or 051 visa

If you have a valid 050 or 051 visa, you can enrol for Medicare. Medicare is a national insurance scheme that provides free or subsidised health services. It helps you access cheaper general health care.

What health services you can use

We have services to help you with health care and getting vaccines.

Help with general health care

If you have a valid 449 visa, you are not eligible for Medicare. You can still visit a doctor and seek medical care, but you won’t be covered by Medicare.

If you have a valid 786 visa, you can use Medicare to get lower cost health care.

If you have a valid 050 or 051 visa, you can use Medicare to get lower cost health care from 31 January 2024.

Read more about what’s covered by Medicare and how to enrol in Medicare.

Help with vaccines

While you’re in Australia you can get your COVID-19 vaccinations for free. Read more about COVID-19 vaccinations on the Department of Health and Aged Care website. You don’t need a specific visa type to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

If you’ve had immunisations overseas, you can have them recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

Find out how to add overseas immunisations to the AIR. You’ll need to give proof of each one.
