When your supplement is taxable
Your Youth Disability Supplement is a taxable payment if all of these apply. You:
- are 16 or older
- get Youth Disability Supplement with Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY.
From 2019-20 you need to include this as a taxable payment if you need to lodge your tax return. You don’t need to include previous financial years Youth Disability Supplement payments.

From the 2019-20 financial year onwards, Youth Disability Supplement appears on your Centrelink Payment Summary.
Set up a tax amount to deduct arrangement
You can choose to set up a tax amount to deduct from your payment. This will help you avoid a tax debt at the end of the financial year.

When your supplement isn’t taxable
Your Youth Disability Supplement is not a taxable payment if you get Youth Disability Supplement with Disability Support Pension.
From 2019-20 you need to include this as a tax-free payment if you need to lodge your tax return. You don’t need to include it if you got it in previous financial years.

If you don’t need to lodge a tax return or provide income details, you don’t need to do anything.
When to include it in your income estimate
From 2019-2020, you need to include Youth Disability Supplement payments in all your future income estimates.
Please check the income estimate you gave us if you get:
- Family Tax Benefit
- Child Care Subsidy
- or pay or receive child support.

You can check and update your income estimate a few ways.
Centrelink
If your Centrelink online account is linked to myGov, sign in now to check or update your income estimate.
You can also:
- use the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app
- call Centrelink phone self service for family income estimates
- call the Multilingual phone service to speak to us in your language.
Child Support
If your Child Support online account is linked to myGov, sign in now to check or update your income estimate.
You can also:
- use the Express Plus Child Support mobile app
- call the Child support enquiry line
- call the Multilingual phone service to speak to us in your language.
