How to claim Special Benefit
Complete the following steps to claim Special Benefit. Before you start, check if you can get it.
Asset hardship provisions
We may stop, reject or reduce your payment because of the assets test. If this is the case, you may be able to apply under the asset hardship provisions.
International bank account form (AUS178)
Use this form to tell us your bank account details if you can get your Centrelink payment outside Australia.
Parent or Guardian details - for the BASE tax year and CURRENT tax year for dependent Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY customers form (MOD JY)
Use this form to provide income details of a parent or guardian if you are a dependent claiming or receiving Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY.
Who can get Special Benefit
You may get Special Benefit if you’re not eligible for any other income support and you meet the eligibility rules.
Overdrawn bank account
You can get help to access your money if you have an overdrawn bank account.
