Allowable time for study while getting Youth Allowance
There’s an allowable time limit on how long you’ll get Youth Allowance. We base it on the minimum time it normally takes to complete your course as a full time student.
Liquid assets waiting period
The liquid assets waiting period is between one and 13 weeks.
Seasonal work preclusion period
This applies if you or your partner finished seasonal, contract or intermittent work within 6 months of submitting your claim.
Severe financial hardship provisions
We may reduce or waive your waiting period for a payment if you meet the severe financial hardship provisions.
Employment income
This is pay you get for work you've done for an employer.
Income from outside Australia
Income you get from outside Australia can count in your income test.
Income maintenance period
This waiting period may apply if you or your partner have stopped work and got leave or redundancy payments.
Distance and online education
If you study by distance education, you need to do an approved course with an approved education provider.
Approved courses and education providers
You must study an approved course at an approved education provider to get Youth Allowance, Austudy, or Pensioner Education Supplement.
