If you need to attend an assessment

There are things you’ll need to do if you need to attend an Employment Services Assessment (ESAt).

If you need to attend an ESAt, we’ll contact you to make an appointment. If we do your assessment over the phone we’ll send you an SMS before we call.

If you have any special needs, you should contact us before your ESAt appointment on the number in your appointment letter. For example, contact us if you prefer an assessor to be of a specific gender to interview you.

Documents you need to give us before the assessment

You need to give us medical evidence if you have any of the following:

  • compulsory Disability Support Pension (DSP) participation requirements, and we need to assess your ability to participate
  • compulsory mutual obligation or participation requirements, and we need to assess your ability to work or participate
  • any new medical evidence you haven’t already given us.

If your condition has changed, you need to let us know. You can do this in any of the following ways, by giving us:

  • medical evidence from your treating doctor that shows diagnosis and impact of your condition
  • a medical certificate from your treating doctor that shows diagnosis and impact of your condition
  • a Verification of medical conditions form that is completed by your treating doctor.

If you have difficulties getting medical evidence, you need to call us on the Disability, sickness and carers line.

Things to bring to the assessment

There are things you may need to bring to your assessment. These include aids, equipment or assistive technology you use, such as hearing aids.

If you want support during your assessment, you can bring a relative, friend or an advocate.
