Getting a SmartCard for enhanced Income Management in Queensland

You can access your enhanced Income Management account with a SmartCard.

If you're new to enhanced Income Management, you can get a temporary SmartCard straight away. This will make sure that the income managed part of your next Centrelink payment can be sent to your enhanced Income Management account.

You can use your temporary SmartCard while you wait for your personalised SmartCard to arrive in the mail.

Getting a temporary SmartCard

You can get a temporary SmartCard if:

  • you are waiting for your personalised SmartCard to arrive in the mail
  • your SmartCard is lost, stolen or damaged.

Make sure you keep your temporary SmartCard until you get your personalised SmartCard and activate it.

Once you activate your personalised SmartCard, your temporary SmartCard will stop working and you can safely throw it away.

You can get a temporary SmartCard from one of these service centres in Queensland:

If you get your temporary SmartCard from a service centre, we will activate it for you. You can use it straight away if you have money in your enhanced Income Management account.

If you go to a participating agent

You can get a temporary SmartCard from one of these participating agents in Queensland:

  • Aurukun
  • Coen
  • Cooktown
  • Doomadgee.

If you get your temporary SmartCard from a participating agent, you need to activate it before it will work.

Call the SmartCard eIM hotline to activate your temporary SmartCard.

Getting a personalised SmartCard

You will get a personalised SmartCard with your name on it in the mail if:

  • you are new to enhanced Income Management
  • you have requested a replacement SmartCard.

When you get your personalised SmartCard, you need to activate it. Follow the instructions included in the letter that came with your personalised SmartCard.
