An Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) is a unique number used to identify an individual for health care purposes.
If you’re not eligible for Medicare or a DVA benefit, find out how to get an IHI.

How to return mail to us
If you get mail to your address that isn’t for you or anyone living at the address, there are options to return it back to us safely.
Don’t open mail that’s not addressed to you.
You can return unopened mail to us using the return to sender service provided by Australia Post.
You can either:
- write return to sender - unknown at this address on the envelope and place it in an Australia Post red street posting box
- hand it in at any Australia Post Office to return to the agency.
You can also hand it in to us at any Services Australia service centre.
If you’ve opened the mail, please call us on our Services Australia Feedback and Complaint line. You can also visit a Services Australia service centre and we’ll provide instructions on what you need to do.
