24/7 registered nurse (RN) supplement for approved aged care providers

Approved aged care providers of residential aged care may be eligible for the 24/7 registered nurse supplement.

You don’t need to apply for this supplement. The Department of Health and Aged Care will let us know if you’re eligible.

All residential aged care services must have a registered nurse (RN) onsite and on duty 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. The supplement rate is based on total number of occupied beds per month and the Modified Monash Model location of your facility.

Support for smaller facilities

From 1 July 2024, an alternate supplement rate is available to support smaller facilities. To be eligible for the supplement, your facility must have both of the following:

  • no more than 30 residents
  • a RN on-site and on duty for 50% to 87.5% of the time.

You won’t get this supplement or the alternate rate if you have an exemption from the 24/7 RN responsibility from the Department of Health and Aged Care. Read more about exemption from the 24/7 RN responsibility on the Department of Health and Aged Care website.

Getting your supplement

We’ll pay the supplement as part of your monthly claim. If your monthly claim is approved before we’re notified of your eligibility, we’ll pay it the following month when your next claim is approved. It’ll show as a retrospective adjustment.

To align with other supplements, we’ll pay the 24/7 RN supplement as part of the advance as per the current advance business rules. It’ll be included in your service’s monthly payment statement.

If you’re a co-located or closely located service, the Department of Health and Aged Care will have contacted you.
