Stopping Parental Leave Pay

We may ask you to stop providing Parental Leave Pay.

If your employee’s child is born or adopted before 1 July 2023

We may ask you to stop when any of the following applies to your employee:

  • they have finished their Paid Parental Leave period and any connected Flexible Paid Parental Leave days
  • they are transferring some of their Parental Leave Pay to another primary carer
  • they have returned to work, except for allowable reasons including stillbirth or infant death
  • they have used more than 10 keeping in touch days before the end of their continuous block of Parental Leave Pay
  • they stop being your employee
  • they get an income support payment from us
  • they are no longer eligible for Parental Leave Pay.

If your employee’s child is born or adopted from 1 July 2023

We may ask you to stop when any of the following applies to your employee:

  • they shorten their block of payment to less than 8 weeks
  • they include a weekend in their block of payment
  • they stop being your employee
  • they get an income support payment from us
  • they are no longer eligible for Parental Leave Pay.
