Protect your personal information and stay safe when separating

Published: 7 January 2025

If you’re ready to leave a relationship, there are things you can do to protect your privacy and separate safely. There’s also help available if you need it.

You need to update your information with Medicare, Centrelink, and Child Support. This helps keep your information secure.

You may consider doing any of the following:

  • change your passwords and PINs for myGov and other services
  • cancel your acting arrangements
  • update your relationship status before updating other personal details
  • update your Medicare and My Health records
  • check if you can get payments from us
  • apply for child support
  • secure your personal identity documents.
