New medical certificate rules for people who get Disability Support Pension

Published: 10 March 2025

Your medical certificate can be up to 24 months, based on your medical condition.

Your doctor will assess your condition and complete a medical certificate.

When you give us a medical certificate, we’ll work out if we can give you an exemption and let you know.

This change applies if you get Disability Support Pension and you:

  • are under 35 years old
  • have compulsory participation requirements.

If you’re sick or injured and can’t meet your participation requirements, read more about getting a medical certificate.
