How to claim Special Benefit
Complete the following steps to claim Special Benefit. Before you start, check if you can get it.
Unreasonable to live at home statement by parents or guardians form (SY016)
Use this form if your child has applied as an independent person for Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY under the unreasonable to live at home guidelines.
Asset hardship provisions
We may stop, reject or reduce your payment because of the assets test. If this is the case, you may be able to apply under the asset hardship provisions.
Income from employment
If you or your partner get income from employment you need to tell us. This is so we can pay you the right amount.
Employment Services Assessments
If you need help finding a job, we'll assess the impact of your barriers to work including disability, illness or injury.
Scheduled reporting
If you need to report your employment income, it’ll usually be every 14 days, on a date we tell you. We call this scheduled reporting.
Social work services for your mental health
We can help you access mental health support services in certain circumstances.
What gifts we include in income and assets tests
We may include your gift if you give away, sell or transfer it for less than its market value.
