Disability Support Pension

Financial help if you have a physical, intellectual or psychiatric condition that is likely to persist for more than 2 years and stops you from working.

Not everyone with disability or a medical condition can get Disability Support Pension (DSP). If you can’t get DSP, you may be able to get other payments.

To get DSP, you need to meet both:

  • non-medical rules
  • medical rules.

To find out if this is the right payment for you, read more about who can get it.

You can also watch our video about DSP.

You can read about how we assess your claim. This will help you to prepare what you need for your claim, including your medical evidence.

There’s help available if you’re looking for a job. Read more about help to find work while getting DSP.

If you get DSP and you’re nearing Age Pension age, you can choose to transfer to Age Pension. We’ll write to you to ask whether you want to transfer. It’s important that you let us know your decision.
