Prove your identity through myGov

How to prove who you are to Centrelink through myGov using the Centrelink identity verification linking option.

When using the Centrelink identity verification linking option, you’ll need to enter details for some acceptable identity documents.

We check the document details you provide using the Australian Government’s Document Verification Service, to confirm if they match.

In some situations, we might ask you to upload another document to your Centrelink online account, or bring an identity document to a Service Centre. We’ll let you know if you need to do this.

Acceptable documents

We need details from several types of documents. You’ll need to use one of these identity documents:

Current identity documentDetails
Australian birth certificateA full birth certificate in your name or former name issued by Births, Deaths and Marriages. We can’t accept birth extracts, birth cards or Justice of the Peace certified copies.
Australian citizenship certificate

Issued in your name or former name. If your name appears on your parents’ citizenship certificate, you can use that.

Note: you need to give us the front and back of all identity documents.

Australian passportA current or expired passport of up to 3 years, issued in your name or former name.
Australian visaA current resident or tourist visa issued in your name or former name. We can’t accept expired visas.

Australian Certificate of Registration by Descent

Issued by the Australian Government to a person born outside Australia. At least one of their parents was an Australian citizen at the time of their birth.

Australian driver licence

A current driver licence with your photo issued in your name. This includes physical and digital driver licences, current learner permits and provisional licences.

Note: you need to give us the front and back of all identity documents.

ImmiCardAn ImmiCard issued to you by the Department of Home Affairs.

You’ll also need to enter some details from your Medicare card.
