The Paid Parental Leave period must be paid as a single block.
To get the full 12 weeks:
- your start date can’t be more than 40 weeks after your child’s birth or adoption
- you must be on leave or not working from your child’s birth or adoption until the end of your Paid Parental Leave period.
If you return to work before the end of this period, it will end early. There are some exceptions to this rule. Read more about returning to work.
When you claim we’ll ask you to do both of the following:
- nominate a start date for your Paid Parental Leave period
- tell us when you would like to get your Flexible Paid Parental Leave days.
You can connect your Flexible Paid Parental Leave days to the end of your Paid Parental Leave period. Read more about Flexible Paid Parental Leave days.
