Farmers can get up to 4 years’ payment in specific 10-year periods

Published: 3 December 2024

Farm Household Allowance (FHA) is for farmers in financial hardship. Over recent years, we’ve improved payments and services for farmers and their families.

Previously FHA was limited to 4 years in a lifetime. Now eligible farmers and their partners can get up to 4 years’ payment in a 10-year period.

A new period started on 1 July 2024. If you used your 4 years in the last period, you can claim again if you need to.

Other improvements include:

  • a farmer and their partner may be able to do a combined claim
  • the asset limit has increased
  • if entitled to FHA, you get the full rate of fortnightly payment for your situation.

The quickest and easiest way to claim FHA is online, using your myGov account linked to Centrelink.
