Changes to work rules if you get Carer Payment

Published: 20 March 2025

You can work flexibly while getting Carer Payment and you don’t need to report study, training or volunteering.

You can now work up to 100 hours spread over a 4 week period, instead of 25 hours per week.

If you work, you must report your employment income and the hours you spend working.

The 100 hours doesn’t include study, training, volunteering or travel time to and from work.

If you sometimes work more than 100 hours in a 4 week period, you can use respite days to keep your payment. You can access 63 respite days in a calendar year.
