Carer Adjustment Payment

A one-off payment to support families in financial hardship after a catastrophic event affecting a child younger than 7.

This payment is for you if you give full time care to a child younger than 7 who has been affected by a catastrophic event. Catastrophic events include things like:

  • childhood stroke
  • diagnosis of a severe medical condition, such as childhood cancer
  • car accident or other accidents.

The amount available is up to $10,000 for each child in a catastrophic event. How much you get depends on your family’s circumstances.
