There are different conditions that apply to travel on the weekend, depending on your situation.
Primary or secondary school students under 18
If you’re a primary or secondary school student under 18, you can travel on the weekend when all of the following apply:
- you have a supervisor travelling with you
- you give us the names and numbers for 2 emergency contacts
- you have a Safe Travel Plan in place.
You need a Safe Travel Plan for all pre-booked travel. Ask your school or board provider about putting a plan in place. Read more about Safe Travel Plans on the Department of Social Services website.
If there are disruptions to your travel, you must follow your safe travel plan. If the plan fails, you can call the travel management company’s after-hours phone number. This number is located on your travel itinerary.
All other students
If you’re a student 18 years or over, you can get the allowance for travel on a weekend if you both:
- give us the names and numbers for 2 emergency contacts when booking travel
- manage any disruptions to your travel yourself.
If there are disruptions to your travel, you can call the travel management company’s after-hours phone number for help. This number is located on your travel itinerary.
