About Medicare and DVA Webclaims

Webclaim is an online claiming channel through Health Professionals Online Services (HPOS).

You can claim Medicare eligible items using a Medicare Patient Claim, Medicare Bulk bill Webclaim or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Webclaim for any of the following:

  • general medical services
  • dental services
  • optometric services
  • specialist services
  • allied health services
  • diagnostic Imaging services
  • pathology services
  • speech pathology services.

Submitting a Medicare Patient Claim, Medicare Bulk bill Webclaim or DVA Webclaim

When you submit your claim, you’ll get both a:

  • response saying ‘Paid’ or ‘Requires Further Assessment’
  • claim ID which you can identify with the + symbol.

Medicare Patient Claim, Bulk bill Webclaim, DVA Webclaim saves the last service type you entered. You can begin claims, save them and finalise them later.

You can’t enter notional charges in a Medicare Patient Claim or Bulk bill Webclaim. You must enter the benefit amount against each service.

Processing time

When you submit a Webclaim and if it requires no manual assessment, we’ll process and pay it within one business day.

You must have your bank account details registered with us in order to get this payment. You can read how to manage your details online, or complete the Banking details online claiming form (HW052).

Specialist claims

You must claim separately any procedure contained in Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Category 3.

For example, if there’s more than one anaesthetic service performed on the same day, you must complete a separate claim form for each anaesthetic service group.

Use the Number of patients’ seen/field quantity to advise the number of units required for nerve block services.

Claims referred to us for further assessment

If your claim needs more information, you’ll get a return message telling you which field this relates to. You can then enter additional information in the Webclaim for further assessment.

We can usually process these claims within 2 business days.

Accessing Payment Reports

You can access a payment report one business day after your claim has been finalised. You don’t need to subscribe to get these reports, we’ll send them to you through Messages in HPOS.
