About the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive

The General Practice in Aged Care Incentive is a payment to support quality health care for permanent residents of aged care homes.

The General Practice in Aged Care Incentive will be the first MyMedicare Incentive starting from 1 July 2024 with payments paid quarterly, for each eligible patient. Payments are made directly to:

  • eligible general practices
  • Responsible Providers who deliver the required services to their patients, who are permanent aged care residents.

The Responsible Provider is the GP linked in the patient’s MyMedicare record as the provider who has agreed to deliver the eligible services to their patient.

Practices are encouraged to select the patient’s preferred GP as their Responsible Provider. This is the GP the patient has chosen as the provider they trust most with their health care.

You can read more about eligibility and registering for the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive on the Department of Health and Aged Care website.
