If you leave Australia for less than 6 weeks

Your Carer Payment rate won’t change in most cases.

If you leave Australia for more than 6 weeks

In most cases your payment will stop after 6 weeks of travel overseas. This includes the Energy Supplement you may get with your Carer Payment.

If you can get Carer Payment after 6 weeks, you’ll get an outside Australia rate. You won’t get the Energy Supplement.

We may cancel your Carer Payment if any of the following apply:

• you remain overseas for 13 weeks after your payment stopped
• you run out of breaks from caring
• your Carer Allowance stopped, and you get Carer Payment because you were getting Wife Pension and Carer Allowance on 19 March 2020.

If we cancelled your payment while you were overseas, you may need to claim Carer Payment again when you return.
