Approved courses

You must be studying a Student Start-up Loan approved course to be eligible for the loan.

These are different to approved courses for other student payments.

Your course must be all of the following:

Courses

The course can be either:

  • one that leads to a degree or diploma
  • a preparatory course before you start a degree or diploma.

It can’t be a vocational education or training course.

It must be on the National Register of Higher Education Providers. This is on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency website.

If you’re doing a Startup Year course, you also need to be getting a STARTUP-HELP loan to get a Student Start-up Loan.

Read more about the STARTUP-HELP loan on the Study Assist website.

Providers

Approved providers are:

  • universities
  • some private colleges
  • some TAFE colleges.

They must be on the National Register of Higher Education Providers. This is listed on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency website.

Find out if your course is an approved course

Look up your course on the National Register of Higher Education Providers to check if it’s approved. You can find the list on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency website.

If your course is on the list, you may get the loan for it.
