Eligible equipment

You can only get the Essential Medical Equipment Payment (EMEP) if you use certain equipment in your home.

This equipment can be any of the following:

  • home dialysis machine
  • home ventilator
  • home respirator
  • home parenteral or enteral feeding device
  • oxygen concentrator
  • heart pump
  • suction pump.

You can also get the payment if you use any of the following:

  • infant apnoea monitor, medically prescribed
  • nebuliser, used daily
  • positive airways pressure device
  • phototherapy equipment
  • air bed vibrator
  • electric wheelchair
  • insulin pump.

You might know the equipment by a different name.

You can’t get this payment for any other equipment. But you may get it for heating or cooling used for medical needs.

Equipment with non-rechargeable batteries is not eligible.

You can’t get this payment for a mobility or electric scooter. A mobility scooter is not essential medical equipment for EMEP and is not eligible.
