Compensation interest checks and clearance

We must assess compensation payments to determine a person’s eligibility for income support payments and concessions.

Interest check requests

Lawyers and compensation payers can ask for an interest check by completing either of the following forms:

We have an interest if any of the following apply:

  • your client is getting an income support payment or concession
  • your client got an income support payment in the past.

Compensation clearance

If we placed you under notice, you’ll need to ask us for a clearance. Do this before releasing any compensation payments to your client.

A notice is a preliminary notice or a recovery notice for the compensable event.

If we haven’t sent you a preliminary notice or a recovery notice for your client, contact us before releasing any compensation payments.

You’ll only need to ask for a clearance if your client or their partner was paid a compensation affected payment from the date of the compensable event. Find out what payments are affected by compensation.

We can only provide a clearance after all parties have settled.

For any estimate enquiries, refer to the Compensation Estimator.

You and your client can use the estimator to estimate their preclusion period. They can also find out how to use our compensation estimator.
