We administer the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

Northbound component is for goods produced or manufactured in Tasmania and transported by sea to the Australian mainland.

Southbound component is for businesses that produce or manufacture in Tasmania. Claims can be for domestic goods or imported goods with no Australian equivalent.

The King Island and Furneaux Group intrastate component applies to intrastate sea freight shipped between the Bass Strait islands and the mainland of Tasmania.

If you are a sportsperson or professional entertainer, or transporting brood mares, you may be eligible for freight assistance.

There are two different rates of assistance under the TFES.
